Kristine is a Perthshire potter with a particular interest in alternative firing techniques.
Producing Raku pottery is a very natural process; the mixing of clay and water, followed by tempering in fire and smoke. This simple process can nonetheless produce beautifully complex and unpredictable patterns in the finished pieces. Sagger and pit firing are increasingly being used by Kristine, with some vessels being fired three or four times to get the desired colour, detail and depth to the finished surface. Believing that pottery is made to be enjoyed by sight and touch, alternative firing techniques bring pottery to life with a wide range of textures and colours. |
